February Newsletter

I couldn’t be any happier, that we are now in the second month of the year. February is the marker for me that the days are getting warmer, and that winter is half over. I have never been a fan of winter coats, boots, hats or mitts. You know how we all have those quirks, well this one is mine. I not only planned my pregnancies to have certain astrological signs for my children, but also so I wouldn’t have to wear a winter coat to keep my babies warm. The only time I enjoyed my winter coats, boots, hats or mitts was when we were out having snow ball fights, building forts, making ice rinks in our yard, or making snow angels. I have always loved Groundhog Day, as a little girl wanting to know if the shadow was seen or not. Funny, I remember being excited to go to bed February 1st just so the groundhog would let me know if I would be running barefoot through the sprinklers once again.

As I started to learn more about my Scottish and Irish roots, I was excited to learn it wasn’t always the groundhog who brought me the warm sun. February 1st and 2nd marks the exact mid–point of the Winter Solstice, and the Spring Equinox, where there are other celebrations other than a shadow on the ground.  The Sacred Feminine for Life has been celebrated in many cultures for thousands of years as the holiday when the light begins to return–like Imbolc, Brigid’s Day, and Candlemas.

In pre-Christian times, it was the Festival of Light.  The Celts/Gaelic called it “Imbolc.” It is traditionally the great Festival and Honouring of Brigid (Brighid, Bride, Brigit), so loved as a Pagan Goddess that her worship was woven into the Christian church. In Christian times, the Pagan Goddess was transformed into Saint Brigid of Ireland, and St. Brigid’s Church in Kildare was built on a site sacred to Brigid. She is a Goddess of healing, poetry and smith craft.  She is Goddess of Fire, of the Sun and of the Hearth. She brings fertility to the land and its people, and is closely connected to midwives and new-born babies. She is the Triple Goddess, but at Imbolc she is in her Maiden aspect.

The term “Imbolc” derives from Old Irish, and means “in the belly,” or alternately “ewes mile,” pointing to the time when the first lambs were born, associated with a celebration of fertility, reproduction and the young. It is the promise of renewal, of hidden potential, of earth awakening and life-force stirring. It is time to let go of the past and to look to the future, clearing out the old, making both outer and inner space for new beginnings. For some people, Imbolc is a time for spring cleaning. Some clean their homes, take ritual baths and de-clutter their lives in other ways. This is believed to create space for new seeds to take root in the coming Spring.  Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man.

Nowadays, Imbolc may be related to Candlemas - celebrated on February 2nd - a Christian holiday, with pre-Christian roots. The custom was to bless the candles as a symbol of light, so they would protect the people, the house and the seed on the fields.

In this newsletter I have chosen to share not so much the inside scoops of me, but more about what fills my heart. Being in line with the Suns warmth returning to our Northern hemisphere, I wish to share one of my most favourite stories. It is not quite known where the story comes from, but it is the most perfect love story.

Once during a time when the earth was simple, the Sun shone brighter than anything. The people were grateful and rejoiced every time the sun shone. He brought them joy and hope, he was even the source of their warmth. But he was lonely all by himself in the vast skies. He would look down to the people dancing in his radiance and wonder if he was simply destined to a life of solitude. That was the price he paid for being the brightest, he reasoned.

Then there was the Moon. As the Sun grew weary and began to disappear, she would rise into the sky, flanked by millions of stars. Her radiance was a sad kind of beauty, one that went unnoticed as people slept. The stars watched her with wishfulness, hoping that one day they would get close enough so she wouldn’t feel so empty. But they couldn’t. The Moon was untouchable, surrounding herself with a blanket of darkness through the cold nights.

The Moon was as beautiful as she can be that only the Stars could fathom. The Sun could not see her though. The Sun so radiant, as he burns so bright. The Moon so luminous, but only showed her face during night. She was untouchable, surrounding herself with a blanket of darkness. The Sun would give anything to catch a glimpse of the Moon, illuminating the beautiful night sky.

Until one day when the Sun was sliding out of the heavens, he caught a glimpse of her. She was peeking up, a rare side of her being exposed to the light. And while the Sun could shine, he knew the Moon could glow, and a faithful whisper trumped an arrogant shout any day.

So just as the stars were wandering into the night, the Sun fell in love like a snowball hurdling down a mountain.  How he wished to see her move  than the fleeting moments he shared with her at both dawn and dusk. But they were a world apart.  The Moon was untouchable, uncurable, unfreeable.

“Go” she whispered to him one of those nights, her voice as sweet and sorrowful at the last light of the morning.  “Go and let me breathe, for you and I have decided fates. You illuminate the day and I cast a glow on the night. We will never be. Our connection would go against all what all the people believe, all they know."  During the summer he would stay just a little while longer in case she changed her mind.  It was no use.

“Don’t you dare abandon your blessing of light for my darkness.”  Those were the last words the Moon was strong enough to speak to the Sun.

The Sun could feel her peaceful soul, and it soon became clear. He would die each and every night to let his true love breathe, and in return, she would reflect his love.

The Sun and the Moon passed each other as they did every day when day turned to night, “Goodnight, Sun” the Moon would say as she rose above the earth.  “Guard our people well, Moon” the Sun would say as he left the sky to sleep.

Moon would admire Sun’s rays and Sun would admire Moon’s gentle light. It was in this way that the two fell in love.

“This is a tale that should be heard and seen.”

“This is the story about how the Sun loved the Moon so much he died every night just to let her breathe.”

I wish to give a special shout out to all you beautiful beings who get to celebrate your birthday in your truest glory this year.

Tarot Readings from Guidance from Spirit

I am so excited to have a 2nd date planned at Happy Place with the amazing Vanessa Giorgio for Tarot readings and guidance through spirit.  Vanessa read for two energy filled days in January and the feedback has been amazing.  I had the privilege of Vanessa joining my retreat and sharing her gift of the tarot with the kindred spirits who joined us.  This was the best tarot reading I have ever received in all of my years and there have been many.  Vanessa connected many dots for me and I can't wait for what will unfold going forward.  Not only did Vanessa connect some dots but she gave answers to what was left undone in my most recent 5 years as well as something to look forward to.

Most of Vanessa's experience has been rooted in feeling energy and unknowingly following her intuition.  Her gut instinct has guided her through every interaction.  She works with her intuition and yours through Tarot and Oracle to create a sacred space for healing and guidance resulting in a more aligned experience.

Date: Saturday, February 29th Time: 10:00AM to 5:00PM

Were you born in February? Your birthstone is the gorgeous amethyst!

Excerpt from

"Amethyst has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty and legendary powers to stimulate, and soothe, the mind and emotions. It is a semi-precious stone in today’s classifications, but to the ancients, it was a “Gem of Fire"; a Precious Stone worth, at times in history, as much as a Diamond. Amethyst has always been associated with February, the month the Romans dedicated to Neptune, their water-god. Therefore, it should be no surprise that it is the traditional birthstone of that month. It is the stone of St. Valentine and faithful love and signifies ecclesiastical dignity as the Bishop’s Stone. It carries the energy of fire and passion, creativity and spirituality; yet bears the logic of temperance and sobriety.

"Amethyst’s ability to expand the higher mind also enhances one’s creativity and passion."

The name Amethyst is derived from the Greek word ametusthos, meaning “not intoxicated", and comes from an ancient legend. The wine god Bacchus, angry over an insult and determined to avenge himself, decreed the first person he should meet would be devoured by his tigers. The unfortunate mortal happened to be a beautiful maiden named Amethyst on her way to worship at the shrine of Diana. As the ferocious beasts sprang, she sought the protection of the goddess and was saved by being turned into a clear, white crystal. Bacchus, regretting his cruelty, poured the juice of his grapes over the stone as an offering; giving the gem its lovely purple hue.

Throughout history, the special virtue of Amethyst has been that of preventing drunkenness and overindulgence. Ancient Greeks and Romans routinely studded their goblets with Amethyst believing wine drunk from an Amethyst cup were powerless to intoxicate, and a stone worn on the body, especially at the navel, had a sobering effect, not only for inebriation but in over-zealousness in passion. Catholic bishops also wore Amethyst in a ring to protect from mystical intoxication. Kissing the ring kept others from similar mystical intoxication and kept them grounded in spiritual thought."

"If you need sometime to believe in... start with yourself!"
